What is the weather usually like in Chicago during memorial weekend?|199860

I am new to Chicago and curious, is the weather usually nice by memorial weekend or is it still cold?

You name it! Usually it is spring-like and in the high 60_s. It can snow though or be in the 80_s. Also keep in mind that proximity to the lake makes a difference - there is a reason the weather people say _cooler at the lake_. The temps you hear on the news are for O_Hare about 10 miles from the lake. The lakefront can be as much as 20 degrees lower, or slightly higher in the fall or early winter.

What to do and where to eat in Palm Springs California during the HOT summer months?|182871

I know its hot as crap in the summer but have to go down for work. I know there is a water park there and golf. What other nice things are there to do in Palm Springs, Cali during the summer that doesnt involve a heat stroke? Can anyone recommend any nice romantic resturants? Staying at the Vacation Internatioanle Oasis Resort anyone stayed there before?

When it_s that hot, I don_t even like to go out. It_s just TOO hot to do much except enjoy the pool. However, the free bike rentals in the evenings are very nice if it ever cools down.
Here are some nice restaurants:
Devane_s :Housed in a Spanish-style building which doubles as an Italian villa, this restaurant offers reasonably priced Italian specialties with pasta in a dozen different forms and plenty of pizzas. It is owned by actor William Devane and his wife, and the couple is actively involved in every aspect of the restaurant. Enjoy Lasagne, Gnocchi, Chicken Saltimbacco and other rich entrees. End with a slice of Chocolate Thunder Cake or Tiramisu.
Las Casuelas Terraza:Always busy, this well-run restaurant and bar, complete with dance floor, provides great Mexican food, friendly service and a never-failing spirit of fun. Sit inside for a little insulation from the hustle and bustle or grab a sidewalk-side table near the Palapas Bar, where the heated dance floor keeps people bouncing even when the temperature is unseasonably cold. Choose a tequila from the vast selection of premium brands while listening to the strolling mariachis, who start playing in the morning. The Carnitas are excellent
Doug Arango_s Restaurant: This acclaimed restaurant is discovered by word of mouth and from lavish praise in magazines like Cond�� Nast Traveler, Wine Spectator and Bon Appetit. Housed in a gracious, Italian villa-style building, it has a casual atmosphere. Ready-made take-out food comes from the deli case, but the dining areas are elegant. Lord Fletcher_s: As the name implies, this is somewhat of a British Pub. The two signature dishes are the Prime Rib and the rack of lamb, but there is a full menu of choices. Located at Palm Canyon and Country Club.

The Internationale Oasis resort is a great place to stay! There will be a lot to do there- as long as you enjoy water! The pool is fabulous and there is a mini-waterpark, too. The food is good- many choices ranging from $ to $$$...

Palm Springs is also home to some nice museums: an art museum, air museum, and the living desert museum- although summer is not the best time for that.

Go on an architecture tour- some of the homes are so unique...

Downtown, there are also many shops and restaurants- with misters lining the streets to help stay cool...

Ther is a wonderful water park. As to where to eat they have such a wide range it depend what you like and can afford.

What is the best cross-country moving service?|197372

Looking for a moving company for a small apartment from West Coast to East Coast (3000 miles). Looking for quality -- safe handling of antiques and artwork, etc. Thanks for any suggestions and personal experiences!

This depends on the city you_re moving from and to. You want to check for an agent that has affiliates in both the origin and destination. I will also recommend checking to see if this agent has it_s own haulers (those that actually drive your household goods across country). Use only reputable companies and please do not let anyone try to talk you into having your estimate done by item. The best way to get a long distance (or even local) move quote is to have someone come to your home and do a visual survey of all you are moving. For long distance moves, the estimate and the final cost should be done by the weight of the shipment and not by the inventory list (the surveyor gets his box count wrong by 1 box and your move price can jump exponentially if done by the inventory/item).

A great place to check out the reputations of a moving company is movingscam.com. I would say the BBB however few people actually file greivances with them so a bad company can have lots of complaints to them but only a handful, if any, to the BBB.

Moving these days with gas where it is will be an expensive proposition so be prepared...it will cost you almost as much to move yourself in a UHaul or other self move service once you figure in gas, lodging, food, etc.

If you want quality, find 5 (I recommend more than 3) qualified companies, get binding or guaranteed not to exceed estimates and then compare services offered...not everyone offers the same services and their prices will reflect this.

Once you find a company that you like, choose at least 2 backup companies and then from that list decide which one offers you the best quality based on your budget.

Many times, the major vanlines are not the best choice...they are only as good as their origin agent, hauler and destination agent...you_re essentially dealing with sometimes as many as 3 different franchises of the same vanline and their quality on one end may not be nearly as good as the quality of the origin agent that you chose to do business with. If going with a major vanline...ask what agent will be hauling and what agent will be delivering and then check out those agents as well as the origin agent.

I have sent the mail on Friday of last week, and i was wondering how long would it take until it ends up in Chicago, IL?

I would say it depends on what is being sent.
A subcribed weekly newspaper from NW WI can take 1-3 weeks to get to Colorado Springs. CO. It can also take a week to go just 50 miles.

A lot depends on the size of the city it is mailed from or to. Your letter will go to the local processing center. Generally the mail will go on a flight that night to the processing center that handles the mail for the town it is going to. The processing center will then send it to the local community.

If the processing center in NJ is small and doesn_t get much mail for IL it won_t send a tray directly to the town. It may send it to the district. For example.. let_s say you are mailing to the 612 zip code. This is the Quad City area of IL and is processed by Des Moines or Cedar Rapids or the Quad City plant.

So the processing center may not get very much mail for that area so they may consolidate the mail and your mail could go to any of the above locations. If it comes to Des Moines (where I work) we send it to the Quad Cities plant the night that we receive it. And then the Quad Cities will process the mail the next day and it will generally be delivered the following day.

Lots of variables, but keep in mind that the mail moves 24/7, so that 2 or 3 days is calendar days not weekdays. This is true at all of the above plants, so when your mail will move all weekend long. Since your mail is going to Chicago, the mail should have flown straight into Chicago and could be delivered on Monday.

Of course if the address is hard to read it can take longer because most mail -- including hand-written addresses -- are processed entirely by machine.
