How can I find information about local suburbs of cities Im interested in moving to?|104891

I am researching places I would like to move and I_m trying to find information about different neighborhoods and such. For example, if I_m looking at Pittsburgh PA where can I find even the names of area suburbs?

  • Try a couple of things:

Google maps (or any map website)
Realtor.com (after identifying the city you_re primarily interested in, you can refine your search to include nearby areas)

Once you know what cities you_re interested in, try this website. It_s called Sperling_s and it_s a database of cities all across the country. You don_t have to sign up to use their info, just type in the city name you_re interested in researching.

    Good luck!

  • Just enter the name of the city and the word, _suburbs_ in the search bar...like this...Pittsburgh, suburbs...and click go. You will get a list of articles and some should be similar to the one i found below. You can also enter the name of the city , followed by _neighborhoods_ or _communities._

People who live in California all their life..moving to New York..How is it going to be for me?|126621

I planning on moving to New York from living in california my whole life...im planning to attend school/work in New York..Im 18 years old//so im with the modern trend and all...But i know in New York..they talk and act differently..what should I expect and be aware of..help me out! Thank you!

  • well..let_s see you are 18 and plan to move to NY...

will you be living on your own? How will you support yourself?
I am assuming you don_t have a job waiting for you here, so will need a load of cash or a sugar daddy.

Do you know anyone in NY? if yes ask them if you can move in with them for 2 or 3 months untill you get on your feet. Unless you want to be homeless make sure you get a place to move in before you come and a job.
Then you will need between 800+/month for rent (depends on which part you move to not including Manhattan)

Have you ever been to NY or you just heard about it? Do your research about the city and think very hard about it. Don_t just pack up and leave.

don_t worry about the accent everyone in NY has their own accent because they are from all over the world. people in NY live fast and hard.
Expect to work hard, sleep late, cry when it snows, eat the best food ever, to be pack like sardines on the subway, half your money to go for rent and the best( or the worst) time of your life.

  • Um, enterreality does not represent me as a New Yorker.

People come here from all over the world; many love it; for others it_s an experience and they end up somewhere else. You certainly don_t need to be from a surrounding state to have a good experience in NY! That_s silly.

It sounds like you_re either planning on going to college here, or some kind of professional school, so you have a reason to come. Yes, I agree -- you should do research about where and how you_re going to live -- but thousands of young people come here every year and don_t die in the streets.

It_s enormously different from California, of course, in the ways that people answering are saying. But I find it a huge adjustment to be in California, so it goes both ways.

The comment about _Californian tourists_ is rude, irrelevant and untrue in my experience. People for California are a lot like people: Some are great; some are not.

New York is one of the most exciting places in the world. As I said, you should definitely do a LOT of research about finding a place to live here, and if you have a friend or relative who already lives here and can help, that would be great. Also, if you can visit before you actually move here and get a feel for at least a part of the city, that would be really helpful too. But I hope curmudgeons like enterreality don_t discourage you. You_re young. This is when you_re allowed to have adventures, right?

  • From being in both places before...it will be a totally different world.
    a big life change.

it definitly depends on what kind of person you are.

california is laid back, relaxed lifestyle, alot of the same kind of people, and has nice weather.

new york is a different world....its hectic _ busy, tons of ppl. the weather will probably be a shock, you_ll definitly get a taste of snow and winter(big change) and overall the ppl are different, most are fast paced and determined. some say stuck up and serious. new york is also filled with people from all over the globe _ a melting pot_. but there is so much opportunity there.

i think it will definitly be a experience for you, even if you stay there or not, dont expect it to be anything like california. but give it a chance.

  • First, you need to ask yourself, why are you coming here?

If you can_t answer yes to at least one of the following questions, I strongly discourage you from moving to NY:

Were you born or raised here or in a nearby state such as Pennsylvania, Connecticut or New Jersey? You said you were from California, so we all know what the answer to that question is.

Do you have any family or friends that live here?

Do you have a job that_s forcing you to live in/near NY?

Just another note I want to make: From my 75 years of experience, Californian tourists generally tend to be annoying as hell. That was true when I was much younger and still the same now.

  • I disagree with enterreality. You don_t have to have say yes to one of those questions...
New York (city) is much more denser than any city in cali...

What are some nice beaches in the state of North Carolina, and where are they located?|111237

Also, do any of the beaches have stores, shops, and activities to do similar to the beaches in California?

  • Atlantic Beach/Emerald Isle is nice located near Morehead City, Wrightsville Beach outside of Wilmington, NC is one of the farthest south in NC, Carolina Beach being the other; both are about 1hr-11/2 hrs from Myrtle Beach, SC. The shops are local _Mom _ Pop_ joints and you can go boating and fishing as some of the activities. Check out NC_s tourism for more details

  • The outer banks (Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Corolla) have some quaint shops and fine dining. We went to Corolla over Easter and stayed in a really nice beach house. You can go up to the tip of the island and actually drive on the beach. Thats a lot of fun!! If you like fishing, then I reccommend Morehead City or Atlantic beach. Have fun!!

  • WELL EVERYBODY FROM NC GOES TO MYRTLE BEECH ONE OF THE NICEST BEECHES IN THE US BUT MYRTLE IS IN SC BUT NC HAS BEECHES TO BUT MOSTLY FOR FISHING AND RETIREMENT ONE IS MOREHEAD BEECH IN NC BUT MYRTLE HAS LOTS OF STORES ON OCEAN BLVD TO IT IS VERY TURISTY ALL KINDS OF AMUSMENT

  • We vacation every year in Topsail Island NC. It is a very quiet beach, with a small down town area. They have some shops mostly mom and pop. They also have some restaurants and bars. It is a great place to go if you just want to relax and enjoy the sun and surf. It is about 20 minutes from Wilimgton.

  • First off, not everyone in NC goes to Myrtle Beach. MB receives only 15% of its tourists from NC.

The top beaches in NC for activities you mentioned:

Northern Outer Banks (Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, etc)

Wilmington area beaches (Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach)

Crystal Coast (Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach and Swansboro)

Brunswick Beaches (Holden Beach, Oak Island, Ocean Isle Beach, etc)

The first three areas have a lot built into them already... the last (Brunswick) is only 30 minutes from Myrtle Beach, which has everything and more (including traffic -- which is an utter nightmare in the summer). The best thing about the Brunswick Beaches is you can enjoy peaceful time with the family, and still make quick escapes for shopping and other amusements during the day to Myrtle Beach.

Check out NCBeaches.com or VisitNC.com for more information.
  • How can I find out when Trick or Treating is in Denver Areas?|123358

Specifically Highlands Ranch Please. Ive looked up everywhere on the internet and cant seem to find a time?

  • In Castle Rock, it_s like 5-9. I turn my porch light off at 9

  • Unlike some cities, Denver (and highland hills for that matter) have no times set when trick-or-treating is permitted. I know they do this in some places to protect kids, etc.

Usually, the smaller kids start around 5 and you_ll get mostly teens starting around 8 and tapering off until about 10...

  • People start trick or treating with their very young children before dinner, and bigger kids go out at about dusk (really not that far apart)

    That_s kinda across the country.

  • There is no official time. You just go out when you see other people out, which is right around sunset. Everyone is usually home around 8 pm.

  • Treat or Treating is on Halloween smart one.

We turn on our light at like 5 and turn it off at 10.
There really isn_t a rule though...

  • Ask your neighbors. They will know what the usual hours are or if all the kids go to a party at the Rec Center instead.
