Where is A good vacation spot for my friends and I to visit this summer?|161407

Me and 10 of my closest friends (a mix between boys and girls) are all wanting to take a beach vacation this summer. Rent a condo, and just have fun for a week. My family always visits Hilton Head Island every summer, and I enjoy it there. I thought about us all going down there, but am not sure....any ideas of good close vacation spots? I live in Ohio, and would want somewhere not to far to drive.

My favorite place is the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It has everything. There is probably 100 miles of beach. You have the popular tourist beaches and then if you like to be away from crowds there is the National Seashore. You_ll find tons of fun stuff to do. If you like excitement there are wave runners available, parasailing available, kayaking, hang gliding.

Since it will be in the summer head to NYC and go to those beaches.

My other option is that you head up to Marquette, Michigan and enjoy the cold, but fun Lake Superior. If you head down county road 550 and drive for 5 to 15 minutes you can park on the side of the road and find a bunch of hidden beaches. Depending on where you live that can be a very long drive.

Outer banks, North Carolina has great beaches with warm water. You and you friends can split renting a house there for one week. All the houses have hot tubs, pools, volleyball courts with sand, and you should try to get one close to the beach.

What is the best vacation package available for looking at lighthouses in Maine ?|105149

Looking for a travel package to see some lighthouses along the East Coast,in Maine preferably.Bed and Breakfast,log cabin inns or something very romantic.Possibly this will be a honeymoon trip ! She is very much into lighthouses and this would be a great trip for both of us since neither has seen much of the East Coast. Thanks

Pick up a map of the Maine coastline. Rent an auto and drive the shoreline as close as possible to the ocean. The lighthouses are on most maps. Be sure to visit Lighthouse Depot in Wells, Maine. We used Orbitz for motels. We have been to 156 lighthouses nationwide, Michigan has the most colorfull ones, good luck and happy climbing the steps, the views are great.

What Bay Area community colleges have a fashion program?|169347

I know that City College of SF has it, and so does the City College of Alameda. Just wondering what other ones were out there. I_m thinking about taking a fashion/sewing class over the summer at a community college. I live in San Ramon, so the closest cc_s are Las Positas and DVC but neither of them have fashion :( Oh well. Any information would be helpful :) Thanks.

For mid 20_s female that will be attending graduate school. Wants to be in a safe but fun area and close to Mission Hills/Old Town.

Mission Hills, Point Loma, Old Town. I lived in Normal Heights for several years (it_s by the 8 and 805 above the valley). They have a huge arts/crafts/music festival there every September. And there are some nifty restaurants along Adams Ave. Pacific Beach, Mission Beach and Ocean Beach can be a little rough, but are fun places to visit. Enjoy! It_s a beautiful place to live!

When is Rockefeller Center decorated for the holidays?|180969

We will be in NY the week of Thanksgiving (leaving NY on Thanksgiving day) and are wondering if some of the sites/windows will be decorated for Christmas? Will Rockefeller Center be decorated by then, even though the tree won_t be lit? Thanks so much for your help.

They start decorating Rockefeller Center mid-november. As a matter of fact, today they put the tree on and tomorrow or later on in the week they will be putting the gigantic star at the top. While they decorate Rockefeller, you might want to considerate stopping by Macy_s, which is already decorated! and lightened up!

My friend, the folks at Rockefeller Center just started decorating for the holiday. This year_s Christmas tree arrived early Friday morning. It will be lit on Dec. 3rd.

What are some of the best free or cheap entertainment options in Kansas City and surrounding areas?|170845

My roommate and I (ages 23 and 25) are looking for something fun to do this summer, but we_re both on a tight budget. What is the best free and/or cheap entertainment around Kansas City (we live on the Missouri side).

Cheap?

A Royals game is fairly inexpensive, 7 dollars for tickets, then you could split the parking fee.

There are parks along the river that you could go and walk around in; Parkville, up north of KC, for example, has an excellent park and the town is pretty neat to walk around in, too.

And, as everyone has said, the Plaza and Zona Rosa are also neat to explore.

The Shakespeare Fest in Southmoreland Park by the Nelson Atkins Museum is always a good idea. They perform a free play every night (except 4th of July) beginning in late June and running through Mid July. This year they are performing Romeo and Juliet. They ask for donations but admission is free. Take a bottle of wine and enjoy Shakespeare under the stars!

Try going to the Legends on Friday or Saturday nights.... You can walk around the Mall and sometimes they have live bands and different things you can do.

Spend some time at the Country Club Plaza. Park your car and spend an afternoon/evening walking through the whole district. The buildings and fountains are beautiful. The window-shopping and people-watching can both be fun. If you go early enough in the day, you can eat at a nice restaurant (I love the Cheesecake Factory) off of a lunch menu and save some bucks. If that_s still too much, go a block east and grab a bite at Winstead_s (a throwback to 1950s style diners) where you can get a steakburger and a float for a reasonable price. The onion rings are killer.

Keep going another block east of that, and spend some time at the Nelson-Atkins art museum. They accept donations, but that can be just a buck or two. The Nelson has European and American masterpiece paintings, and examples of ancient and medieval, Asian, and Native American works of art.

Speaking of Native American, if you can travel an hour or so west of KC, drop in on some of the local Indian casinos. You don_t have to gamble, and there_s no cover charge. I would really recommend Harrah_s Prairie Band Casino, about 20 minutes north of Topeka. There_s always something going on there. They have a great buffet, and also a smaller restaurant where you can a buffalo burger 24/7. In fact, that_s another point... the casinos never close. This is also powwow season, and the local tribes will each be sponsoring one over the next couple of months. There_s generally a $7-8 a head charge, but you can easily spend a day at one -- or at least all evening.

Drive north to Atchison, KS (about an hour from KC); visit the Amelia Earhart Home (a small charge), or the train museum (with many authentic train engines and cars that you can walk through). Take the trolley through Atchison for a tour of the local haunted houses (this town has been called _the most haunted town in America_ by the Discovery Channel).

Head over to Cabela_s. Spend some time walking through their aquarium. See the diorama of the African veldt, the wildlife mountain in the middle of the store, and the hall filled with record-breaking deer antlers.

Go to Lawrence, KS and walk up and down Mass Street. This is a shopping and entertainment district for a major university town. Lots to see and do. If you can afford to splurge a little, get lunch at The Mad Greek. Later, work off the Greek food by driving to the public access lookout tower south of town, and climbing to the top. The view is great, and the price is free (except for some huffing and puffing).

Why don_t you go to the Plaza area. Its really nice. By village inn, there a lot of restaurants, shops, people. Hope this helps.

In the summer, there a various carnivals and festivals that have free concerts. I know that Merriam, KS has a live band play at the Farmer_s Market on Wednesday nights.
