What are some nice, fairly affordable hotels within walking distance of South Station in Boston?|163880

My buddy and I are going to be in Boston for just one night next month and need to stay pretty close to South Station. We_d like it to be someplace fairly nice, but not too outrageously expensive. Maybe around $200.00, max. Any suggestions?

Motel 6 is very affordable.

Try Westin Water front. I booked them through priceline.com. I put a bid for $150 and they accepted. I got a room with two queen beds. Pretty cool. And it is walking distance from the South Station and it_s a 4 star hotel. It_s new so you can get lucky.

The hotels that do exist are all luxury. Try Priceline.com, otherwise you_ll have to stay someplace else. But Boston_s public transit is very good so you probably do not need to be so close to South Station in the first place.

Try the Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express in East Cambridge near Lechmere.

A shirt 15-30 $ and keychains 5-10$ now I don_t know for how many people! oh yes and Postcards for 70 cents -2$ each!

When I visited LA, the prices of things didn_t seem any higher than any place else. Just budget the amount of money you can afford. You find souvenir stores that carry very inexpensive t-shirts and key chains as well as higher end places.

Oh come on... leave us more money than that!

OK, seriously, plan on $10-$20 for the shirt and $5-$10 each for the keychains.

SOme friends and I are going cross country this summer. We live in PA and plan on going out to CA, and back. We dont have a time fram, just have to get back befor the summer is over. We want to see all the big things there are to see that every one knows about, but we also want to see all the stuff that most people dont know about. If you could help us with where these places are and how to get to them, that would be great. Arkansas is a very beautiful and nature state to visit. In the North part of the state their are mountains and waterfalls. In the summer swimming at any AR lake or the Buffalo River. A must is to see Blanchard Springs Caverns and a little further south is the best, Hot Springs and Hot Springs National Forest, a natural spring from the ground, mineral bath houses, a charming city to visit, large historic district. Fun for the whole family. In February Horse Racing in Hot Springs. Downtown Little Rock is a blast, The Clinton Library, or the River Market on Saturday Morning.

In California be sure to visit Yosemite National Park...it is truly awesome with its huge granite mountains and waterfalls. Lots of hiking opportunities.

Lake Tahoe is a beautiful mountain lake high in the Sierras with clear cold water. There_s also casinos and great restaurants.

San Francisco is a unique city with lots of things to do. Take the ferry to Sausilito for some time on the water.

There are wineries throughout California...be sure to visit some. Many areas offer free wine tasting and they are often located in scenic places with interesting things to do. For more on the wineries in California go to

I don_t know how old you are and I don_t know your budget. I am guessing you are young and don_t have tons of money, but who knows except you. Anyways, you should go to Las Vegas if you are 21 or even if you or not it is cool to see, especially at night. California is good from north to south. You could spend your whole time in cali, there is too much to see. It really depends what you like. Hollywood, death valley, LA, Napa valley, Yosemite Natinal park, redwood forest, monteray bay, San fran. Oh and you have disneyland although you are closer to disney world and that is much better. Reno and Tahoe are in northern nevada they are fun. Tahoe is better though, It has a nice lake, and nicer casinos. Also Tiajuana is not too far from San Diego. That is mexico. Now that is like nothing you will see in the states. Less things are illegal there. I think you have to be like 12 to drink. j/k Be careful if you go there though. Crazyness! . If you don_t have a big budget try to get food at grocery stores you can get meats, cheeses, breads to make cheap sandwiches. As far as sleeping goes, hotels are usually abundant along any freeway, especially near towns and cities. Koa is an option if you don_t mind camping and not too expensive. On highways they can be a lot less prevalent. Make sure you get your car tuned up or checked out, have a good spare tire. A cell phone is always good. A Thomas guide or GPS. Have fun! I am jealous.

My web browser doesn_t have all the necessary plug-ins, so I wasn_t able to determine if they had any ride specials. At many events that have ride specials, they usually tell you how much it costs for unlimited rides but don_t tell you the normal cost for rides, which seems to be getting more expensive all the time. In the Upstate NY area, one of the more expensive rides is a tall slide, and can cost up to $4! If I had one of those slides, I could make a lot of money, even if I charged $2. Sheesh. They don_t cost much, require little maintenance, and don_t cost much to operate.

We have a trip to Chicago from Toronto for 2 days. Any advice for attractions and economic hotel?

Well, I usually make the trip the opposite directions (been to Toronto about four times in the past year and ALWAYS visit The Rex... love that place). So it_s good to return the favor.

If this is your first trip to Chicago, I suppose you should see the usual tourist sights first... Millenium Park, Navy Pier, State Street, Michigan Ave., etc. You might also want to throw in the Lincoln Park Zoo (its a free zoo), the Art Institute (great collection and a new modern wing), the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Musem Campus (Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium).

But I highly recommend getting away from the tourist area and seeing _regular_ Chicago. Places like the Wrigleyville area (around Wrigley field, although that can be kinda touristy too), Andersonville (a neigborhood with a Swedish heritage; it sort of reminds me of the Beaches area in TO), Wicker Park (the hipster area, kind of like west on Queen Street), etc. And since it_s getting warmer out, it_s street fair season, so you definitely should check one of those out. They_re all over the city and usually feature live music, food and vendors. Most times they charge you about five bucks to get in, but it_s mostly a fun time.

I recommend picking up a copy of Time Out Chicago magazine to see what_s going on the week you_re here. Or check out the Chicagoist website (It_s run by the same people who run the Torontoist website). They also list things to do that are off the radar.

As for hotels, not sure of what you mean by _economic_ (less than $200? less than $100? Cheaper than that?). Let us know what your price range is (in US dollars).

Also if you haven_t booked your flight yet, check out Porter. It_s the one I use all the time now. Non-stop from Chicago to Toronto for about $200 plus tax. Great.

The museum of science and industry has opened the premiere exhibit of the harry potter props - well worth a see if you are a fan - otherwise the museum is actually quite interesting - depends on your interests and what age you and your fellow travellers are. I recently went and stayed in a youth hostel _parthenon_ but _arlington hostel_ is apparently very very nice and in a great area (it was fully booked for when I went).

When you are in Chicago your best bet is to stay in Downtown Chicago were all the shopping, entertainments, and restaurants are.

I would recomond to stay at the www.avenuehotelchicago.com as a good upscale but economic hotel in Downtown Chicago.

you will love the city of big shoulders. grant park right next to the lake always has something going on. oak st. beach is dynamite. navy pier, science and industry, the magnificient mile, shedd aquarium, the art museum. the nite life on rush. i have been to your wonderful city. i have been to european capitals. there is nothing like chicago. the mid west is the best. it feeds the world.

I usually suggest Essex Inn for it_s location right on Michigan Ave. Or Red Roof Inn on Ontario; both relatively low in price.

My son is 17 years old. He will be 18 this fall. However, he is interested in visiting New York City with his friends next week. My son has a lot of responsibilty and would like to go to NYC with friends before leaving for college...

Possibly. You can call the hotel directly. Tell them that your 17 year old is checking in by himself.

My mother did this for me when I was 15 and went to London, Rome and Salzburg. I had to carry her ID, credit card, and an authorization from my mom.

Catch the AC bus 212 on Civic Center Drive and Bart Way. Get off at Fremont and Beacon Avenue (a 5 minute ride). Walk over to the Hub (a 3 minute walk).
