How do I find a place to live in NYC several months in advance?|181146

I_m a soon-to-be college graduate looking to relocate to NYC in summer 2009. I wish I could have an idea now where I will be living and what I would be paying in rent, but of course apartments aren_t typically available that far in advance. Advice on how to plan/ how to deal with this uncertainty?

Just because you can_t sign a lease several months out, that doesn_t mean you can_t look at apartment listings in places like Craigslist and get a sense of what neighborhoods you prefer, how much you_ll have to spend / how much space you_ll get in your price range, etc.

at this point you can pinpoint a neighborhood and get an idea of average rents for that neighborhood...but you cant actually secure an apt this far in advance...

What are some nice places to visit in New York and New Jersey?|183251

I_ll be going to NY and NJ tomorrow and be there for about two weeks so i want to know some nice places to visit. Well, somewhere _grandmother_ friendly coz I_ll be there to visit my grandmother and she_s going to be with me.

Times square is cool but crowded so it aint good for her.but i say go to central park.its in Manhattan.if you go to grand central station,they will tell you how to get there.

I want to plan a trip for 2-3 days and i live in philly. So, preferably withing 4-5 hrs of driving distance of it. I like nature and water [beaches would be out of choice at this time though :( ]

I don_t know about this time of the year, but Lancaster and Bird in Hand, Pennsylvania are really nice.I go down in August every year. I love it. I like to drive around and stop at all the little Amish farm stands to see what they have.
Or Washington, D.C., but not that much nature.

I will be arriving at O_hare Terminal 5with my wife and a 2-year-old and we need to get on connecting flight departing from Midway airport in Chicago. What is the best way? Is there a bus/public transportation? How much is a cab or a limo? How long will it take? Thank you.

Years ago their used to be a helicopter shuttle between the two airports.
There is still a shuttle service called Coach USA / Wisconsin.

There are also some limo services that will go between the two airports, obviously a bit more expensive.
There is also public bus transportation, but I would not suggest it - especially since you have a small child with you.

Best solution is to take a taxi. If you book a car service, they typically require that you call them after you retrieve your bags. Although a car service is much nicer, that process can delay the transfer by about 10-15 minutes. Instead, just step outside to the taxi line and you should have a car within a much shorter wait. (By the way, always beware of any alleged _private drivers_ who solicit business in the airport or even outside -- it_s illegal).

Taxi will cost about $45, give or take, and you should be there in about 30-40 minutes (unless you_re traveling during rush hour and then plan for a good hour). They do charge an additional $1 per person. I wonder if they would actually charge for a 2 year old?

The best way to get there would be to just take a taxi cab. However, it will be about $45 and up, depending on what cab service you use. I know because I work at the Hilton Garden Inn right outside the airport, and we always recommend that our guests use Airport Taxi and Limo. Their phone number is 847-297-5556. You can also try calling their 800 number at 800-707-0380. They charge our guests a set rate of $45.

As for time planning, it takes 45 minutes with no traffic, and about an hour to an hour and a half if it_s rush hour, between 4-6pm.

Depends upon how much time you have.
There is a bus that travels between the two airports $14 per person.
If you have more time you could try the cta ($2.5 per person). Take the blue line and transfer to the orange line at clark/lake. For this route, I would schedule 2 hrs of travel time. Not the fastest, but cheap.

It can take anywhere from 3 hours to the whole day depending on what they have going on. I know sometimes they show documentaries so you may get caught up in the documentary for 2 hours.

Heading to Destin beach in a couple days and just wondering what the water will be like.

Warm and clear. unless there is a storm. the water temp is around 91. Hopefully there aren_t storms. i went to marco island two years ago and the first two days were beautiful. calm waves, clear and warm water. then a storm came and the water became cold and murky. but the water is usually clear and warm :)

How is interstate travel in the Fargo-Moorhead area affected by the flooding?|178365

We have a trip planned from Manitoba to St. Paul this weekend (April 3-5). We were planning on taking I-29 down to Fargo, then I-94 across the river to Moorhead and down to the Twin Cities.

Is this still the best route, or are these interstates experiencing flood-related closures, traffic backups, etc? Is the I-94 bridge across the Red River even open?

Currently the Interstates are open to travel---the I-94 bridge between Fargo-Moorhead is one of two bridges that didn_t close, bur there will be some extra traffic due to other bridges still being closed.
