We are going to myrtle beach for spring break. We_re still in high school so maybe not drinking bars but are there underage bars? And what are someother things to do other than shopping and the beach? What about weather in April?

Places to see in NYC for the returning tourist?|103071

I have been to nyc before and need help planning my trip. Need ideas for my trip that are fun . I am going from the 30th to the 2nd of december-january.

I guess this all depends on what you did during your previous trip(s) to New York and what you would or wouldn_t like to do again.

The obvious answer, due to your time-frame, is to hang around Times Square and see the ball drop. But, I expect that_s a big factor as to why you_re going.

I would try shopping and eating around Greenwich Village and Chelsea. If you have a sweet tooth, I would add The Magnolia Bakery to my itinerary.

I have heard that the Staten Island Ferry is not only free, but has a great view of the Manhattan skyline.

Last, but not least, I love the theatre. There_s always new shows...so I_d go to the TKTS booth for half-price tickets and take in a Broadway musical or play.

u gotta check out the mc berny ymca on west 26th. just remember not to stay there alot of roaches and mice in the rooms. i found out the hard way back in 95 when i stayed there for 9 days. wished i worked at a marriott hotel like i do now i could of stayed at a nicer hotel.

Where is a safe place to move that is close to downtown Atlanta?|175173

Now, I_ve lived in the Atlanta area all my life. I_ve lived in stone mountain, lawrenceville, sandy springs, and now currently reside in Marietta. I_m a full time student at GSU, now in my junior year. I_m sick of the commute down 75 every day for school so I_ve decided to rent, with two other girls around my age, into a house downtown.

Now, I don_t want to live in the suburbs anymore, so I_m looking for a safe neighborhood that would be relatively affordable that_s within the city limits. Any suggestions?

Grant park area has changed and become more developed. So has summerhill, midtown (may be expensive), some parts of east atlanta, virginia highland area.

i went to gsu! i lived in a house in decatur for a while and it was quiet and safe out there. the rest of the time i lived in little 5 points which was fun but not so safe. it was also super convenient because of the marta train station right down the street. i think it was avondale station even though i lived in decatur. and you have the advantage of being near the decatur (dekalb?) farmers market too. the train was great -- gives you a chance for a last minute study session on the way to school.

Rent at Atlantic Station. You will have so much in walking distance like Publix and Target and many other shops and restaurants, plus, they provide a shuttle to take you to and from Marta. You would really cut down on driving. If you are splitting the rent 3 ways, you should be able to get a nice place and it won_t cost that much.

Definitely a condo. A two-bedroom condo will usually sleep 6 to 8 people, with some sleeping on fold-out beds in the living room. And, the parents get their own private room.

You also have full kitchens and even in-unit laundry at some places. With that many kids, this means you can pick up your supplies at a grocery store (figure about 1-1/2 to 2 times mainland prices, though) and make a lot of your own meals. This can be particularly handy for breakfast (cereal and milk) or lunch (quick sandwiches), instead of having to go out for every meal like you would have to at a hotel.

North of Lahaina and Kaanapali on the west side of Maui are areas called Honokowai and Kahana. These are on a road (lower Honoapiilani Highway) that_s off of the main highway, down by the waterfront. Along this road are dozens of rental condos that may go for about $1500 a week for a 2 bedroom unit. Where the lower highway turns off the main highway, there_s a grocery store called Star Market. You can also go to the Safeway off the main highway on the north end of Lahaina.

From this location, you should be right on the ocean or, at the worst, across the street from it. There aren_t very big waves, because of a barrier reef a couple hundred yards off shore. You may even be able to snorkel right off your own beach. The condo complexes also usually have pools overlooking the ocean. You also get views to Lanai and Molokai, as well as sunsets over the ocean. And during whale season (December to April), you can whale watch right on your own lanai.

This is a good location for activities, too. You_re only about 10 miles north of Lahaina, which is a great place to shop and sight see. There_s also a harbor there where most of your water based activities are based (some, like the Molokini snorkel/dive excursions, are based out of Maalaea Harbor, about 15 miles south of Lahaina).

But, I would definintely recommend a vacation rental condo in Honokowai or Kahana.

outrigger reef in waikiki has friendly service and great rooms, and is kid-friendly

turtle bay resort on north shore has a wonderful pool complex with a waterslide, a great beach with turtles, great prime rib restaurant and a fun atmosphere (a bit on the pricey side)

hilton hawaiian village is highly recommended. they have fireworks shows on friday nights, and have lots of animals (fun for the kids.) they have penguins, flamingos, ducks, geese and parrots, as well as a fun mini mall, waterfalls, beach and pool.

the ohana beachcomber is a cheaper hotel, they have free pastries in the morning and nice rooms, friendly service

best western is a condo/hotel, near the airport. no beach views or anything, but they have a breakfast cafe and pool and small playground. nice rooms.

stay anywhere, just stay away from the homeless......

condo would definitely be more fun

Whats the difference between going to college in New York City and London?|187688

I want to go to college in one of those two places, and lived in the US my whole life.

So what_s the difference? (Besides the driving on the other side of the road)

Massive difference between UK and US college systems that are more important than which is the better city to hang out in for a while.

The biggest difference between UK and US college education is you specialise very early in the UK. There is no such thing as pre-med or pre-law in the UK, you go straight into medicine and you_re a doctor by the time you are 24. Study is a lot more demanding, a UK undergraduate degree is only three years, but it crams in the same amount of stuff a four year US degree does. UK universities rarely have an extensive pastoral support service, it is sink or swim. Students don_t pay the full amount for their fees, just a portion of them, universities are largely funded by the government. This wouldn_t apply to you, as a foreign student you would have to pay full fees.

if i lived in the US for all of my life and had the chance to study in London, i_d do it, if only to know that i could take the train to Paris (and from there to the rest of Continental Europe) in only 3 hours!

here_s an idea: go to college in London, and spend a summer term in NYC.

Well, the first difference might be transportation costs. And, of course, there are cultural differences. But the big factor is which country can offer you the best education in the area you plan to study.

How would I catch the light rail to sea-tac airport from the Greyhound Station in Seattle?|172790

Meaning where would I catch it by the Greyhound Station, which route would I have to take and would I need to transfer anywhere? Also, how much does it cost. There has got to be a cheaper way than taking a taxi?

You can catch the light rail below Westlake Center. The fare is $2.50 and the end of the line is now at the airport. It is about 6 blocks down Stewart to Westlake from the Greyhound Station. If you have luggage and would rather not walk the 4-6 blocks to Westlake the buses are free in the downtown area so just cross Stewart and hop on any bus. (Stewart is a one-way street, so you can_t catch one going the wrong way!) Ask the driver to let know where to get off for the closest stop to Westlake Center - I will only be one or 2 stops further down the street. You will then shorten your walk to about one block to get to Westlake. Go through the shopping center to the very bottom level to get to the light rail station.

Assuming you are talking about the Greyhound Station on Stewart, the closest light rail stop is in the bus tunnels under Westlake center (4th Ave _ Pine St). The entrance to the bus tunnels is very close to the entrance to Nordstrom on Pine. Here is a link to the schedules/maps:

It only costs a couple bucks and they just opened the final connection so it goes straight to SeaTac airport now.

The Greyhound station is about 6 blocks from Westlake Mall ...easy walk if you are not hauling a lot of stuff.
You have to buy ticket from machines in mezzanine of Westlake Bus tunnel.
$2.75 one way to airport. No transferring involved.
When I go down into bus tunnel....which is like everyday....I go to 3rd and Pine....tunnel entrance is right near the McDonalds. Still real close to Westlake mall....one short block.

What is the weather in Seattle and what should i pack?|142585

I_ll be going to Seattle, WA this Sunday. I am from Denmark. I_ll be living with a host family in Kent, WA, and then go to school there. I wanna know what the weather is going to be like (Im used to a little winter with snow and average temperatures of around 20-40 degrees F). What should I pack? Other important things to know? Entertainment? Transportation?

lots of rain clothes... I mean a lot!!! I hope you love the rain as much as I do!
Its usually warmer here about 40-60 degrees... but wet :-)
Entertainment? ummm that_s a good question it depends what you like to do.... and where in Kent your at... downtown Kent has really grown and there are shops and a movie theater and restaurants down there...there is a ice skating rink close by... If your on the east hill of Kent and you like to swim there is a pool behind KM high school...
Oh if you like Thai food - Grandma Thai is really good :-) it doesn_t look like much on the outside but its great!
There is a lot to do in and around Kent it just depends on what you like to do!
Transportation.... also depends on where your at... the bus system pretty much goes every where in kent... and walking is always great... lol just don_t forget water proof clothes and an umbrella!

I think you_ll find the weather in Seattle to be similar to that in Denmark, though just a little bit warmer. Fall, winter and Spring are cool, sometimes cold enough to snow, with a lot of grey days and light rain.

We have not had snow yet this winter but it usually snows once or twice a year.

My suggestion is to pack clothes that you can wear in layers and shoes that can get wet. In general, this area tends to be less _trendy_ with clothing and styles and more casual and practical.

I hope you find your host family to be friendly and helpful, and hope you have a great experience here in the US!

Weather in the winter is grey and rainy, usually cool. Occasional cold and snow. The really cold weather is on the other side of the Cascades. Lots of great trails around, so a bike is a good way to get around.

Kent_s awesome. that_s where i am :) well you need a raincoat. a good one. umbrellas. ipod. there_s always a bus somewhere... maybe a light coat for under the rain coat. some jeans and sweats for at home. just comfy clothes. that_s all that i can really come up with.

at least 2 jackets, boots, jeans are ok but sweats are good for freezing days. as for transportation, get an ORCA card and take the bus to seattle lol
