What is the best way to save some money while traveling?|102938

I will be driving to Colorado from Wisconsin and then back and am wondering what some folks do to save some $$ with out eating mustard sandwiches on there car travels across several states.

We usually eat breakfasts out ---cheapest and can be a substantial appetite suppressant, allowing you to eat a light lunch (buy staples at grocery and keep in an ice chest. Keeping a stash of celery, carrots, fresh fruit, and sandwich makings) Dinner can be a nice salad --that you can easily prepare at a camppground, park, or rest stop). A necessity is a small propane stove...allowing you to boil eggs (that you can keep peeled _ cold in plastic sndwich bags in ice chest), make pasta, make coffee/tea. Buying drinks/snack foods at convenience stores will make your wallet shrink at mach speed.

I am a big fan of food from home - always do it. Have cooler, will travel. Make ahead muffins, cold drinks, sandwiches you make yourself, cooked chicken, fresh fruit, dry cereal. All it takes is a fresh bag of ice to keep things cold. You can go into any store and buy a few staples, make those sand. on the way. Ask for 4 slices of lunch meat at the deli, buy 1 roll, people do it all the time

the best way is not to travel.

If you do actually have the money for the trip then just ignore this post. My answer isn_t for upstanding citizens. It_s for one who will get there by any means necessary.

Get a fish tank water pump or something similar and pump gas out of other peoples cars along the way to save on gas.

Stop at Dunkin_ Donuts and Pizza Places along the way get food out of the dumpsters behind them. They throw away perfectly good food if it doesn_t sell that day. Sometimes the pizza is still hot and they_re all in a pizza boxes so it_s not like they were contaminated or anything.

Of course, I don_t know how much money you need to save but there_s been times that I_ve been broke and absolutely had to get my self and a small group of others across the country. And we learned many tricks for staying on the road.

you dont have ot eat mustard sandwiches but you can save alot of money by not eating in restaurants and buying food from the supermarket,, cold cuts,bread,fruit,soda, instead of ordering the food ata restaurant

Stay in State Parks or KOAs rather than hotels. Learn to cook something besides mustard sandwiches and you can save a ton of money by not eating in restaurants.

If you insist on eating out the best thing is to have a big breakfast or sleep in and skip it. If you skip it than have a big lunch because the meals are far cheaper than dinner meals. At dinner time get something small like a burger or salad! Also be sure to pack a cooler with your own water; juice; soda and snacks!

What are black out periods in a theme park?|199676

In my last question I asked about the Universal Studios Season Pass and what it has to offer. In an answer someone referred to a black out period when explaining the signifigance of a season/_Power Pass_. If someone could explain a black out period that would be amazing!

Black out periods are times when you cannot use your pass to gain admission to the parks. For example, an annual pass is good all year, 365 days per year. The theme parks usually will _black out_ seasonal passes at times like Spring Break, Summer, and Christmas/New Years.

A blackout period is a chunk of days (often holidays and other times when the attractions will be in high demand) where free/discount passes are not honoured.

those are days when the park is closed to the general public.

How safe is the neighborhood around the White Flint metro station in the dc area?|146681

I want to move to a department there (the wentworth) located 3 minutes from the metro station and I want to know how safe is the neighborhood, if you think it_s worthy to live around there or it is too far from downtown dc. If you have comments about the building itself, even better!

It is very safe. That is an area of high end stores, condos and apts. There is an upscale Harris Teeter grocery store and a Giant nearby. They are also building a new shopping complex that will include a large Whole Foods. There are new plans for that area and prices will go up. I don_t know anything about that particular building but it should be nice since it_s new. There is also a concert hall called Strathmore nearby. The symphony and other musical events appear there.

It is really far. Honestly, there are really no _safe_ neighborhoods in or around DC. if you live near the city, especially around businesses, there is always a risk of crime. because the city is so small, criminals can easily get to rich neighborhoods to rob people. white flint isn_t a dangerous area, but always be cautious :-)

Anyone who calls an apartment a _department_ wouldn_t fit in! Try South East DC

I went to Disneyworld last year from Japan and had a great time.
So I want to go to Disneyland next year but I_ve heard DL doesn_t have value hotels as WDW has.
I want to stay as value as possible.
What hotel do you think the best considering rate,location,safety,confort,etc?
And how can I book it?

Hi again, go to www.hotelsdisneyland.com. Click on Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotels. One that I stayed in was Ramada Inn Maingate - Anaheim but anything close to that on South Harbor Blvd will put you at a close distance to Disneyland.
*There are no value resorts in Disneyland as someone mentioned. There are three hotels on the property and they are not value.

Disneyland has 3 value hotels but that does not mean they are better deals. Around Disneyland, you have more choices of hotels to choose from and much cheaper than WDW.

A few of these hotels are also across the street from, the park entrance.

Is it possible to enjoy the san diego wild park and zoo in one day?|199007

The Wild Animal Park is actually 40 minutes or so north of San Diego near the city of Escondido. This would make it difficult to enjoy doing both places in one day.

Be sure to take the bus tour at the Zoo. It is a 45 minute tour that takes you to 75% of the exhibits. You can ride it over and over again if you want.

If you don_t spend the entire day at the zoo, use the rest of the day to explore Balboa Park. You can catch a free trolley that will take you to the different places in the park. There are lots of gardens and museums to visit. For more info on Balboa Park visit:

I tried to see the San Diego Zoo in one day a couple years
ago. Actually, I tried to do it in 1/2 day - but to do that I had to sort of rush through it. And then I was exhausted.

I_d suggest a whole day at the Zoo - that way you can take your time and enjoy it.

I recommend the SkyTram if you need to get from one end of the zoo to the other - not only is it quicker, you won_t wear out your feet as fast.

I am a member of the Zoological society and I wouldn_t even bother with the Wild Animal Park this time of year. The lines are so long, and you see the same stuff at the Wild Animal Park that you see at the zoo. I went a month ago, and left after just 30 minutes because of the relentless heat, lack of shade and crowds. If you have been to Busch Gardens in Tampa, that is what the WAP is like, without the rides.

You can do both in a day no problem.
Get to the Wap when it opens at 9:00am, you can take the tram and the Journey to Africa and see some of the shows.
Blow out of there at about 2:00. The Zoo is about 50 minutes south. Take I-15 South to the 163 South, exit at Park Blvd. Bust a left on Park Blvd. then another left on Zoo Place. Should be about 3:00 when you hit the turnstyle. You can take the double decker bus tour inside the park and hang around till they kick you out at 9:00pm The Zoo stays open till 9:00 in the summer. www.sandiegozoo.org

Not possible at all. Both parks are an all day activity. And besides they are about 30 miles apart. I personally will visit the San Diego Zoo first.

I_m going to be staying at the Wynn, when I arrive I_ll need to stock up on snacks and water, but pay a reasonable price! Is there a CVS or something nearby? Some precise directions would really help. Thanks.

Walk across the strip to Fashion Show Mall there are a couple of ABC Stores there that are fairly reasonably priced and very close, one bridge no streets to cross. And the CVS up the road is also a good answer.

Yes there_s a CVS and Wallgreens in the immediate area. No more than a 2 block walk. Surprise. Sometimes in the resort convenience store cigarettes and water are just as cheap as in a retail store. THey get you on a newspaper will doubel the price at times.

There_s a CVS just up the strip past the Riviera and Circus Circus. It_s a short hike. When you come out on the strip take a right. 2700 Las Vegas Blvd.

I_m sure there is a gift shop in hotel if you want to buy a 7$ bag of chips. Other then that, the CVS up the street is the best option.

I was there in August (so bottled water was a top priority) and I seem to recall Walgreens being very close to the Wynn. Have fun and good luck!

you can listen to your iPod. watch T.V. if you hook up one and then in that case play some video games. then you can play i spy. or one of the best options if your not talking to anyone or have a laptop and are on the computer. talk to someone on the phone. thats what i do. and its fun. and then if not that, SLEEP. i mean thas what i do and i_ve drove to Colorado and Florida and those take several days to get to by driving. you_ll find something to do

I_ve played a game where you start with the letter _A_ and try to find it on road signs, then do _B_, then _C_, etc and see who can find all 26 letters in order first. Also: card games! Like a few 2 player ones are speed, ers, and any others. :D I hope that helps, have fun
