Is it fun and safe to take the Amtrak from Washinton to Souther Cali?|144944

I was wondering because I heard that trees fall and the Amtrak has lots of accidents? I always hear about them having problems. Also they don_t have pics of their cabins on their web site just those cartoon drawings of them so I don_t know if they are comfortable for long trips or not? I wish we had better trains in this country like they do in Europe.

  • Yes, it is safe. I know Amtrak gets a lot of bad publicity, but the reality is that driving is just as dangerous. I wouldn_t worry about safety.

The only thing is that Washington to Southern California is a fairly long trip, I think like 20 hours. But it_s very scenic and nice.
  • What is the name of the bridge that connects you to Clearwater Beach?|134034

We drove from Orlando to Clearwater Beach, FL and went over this long bridge across the water. I was just wondering if anyone knew the name of it. Is it the seven mile bridge because it seemed to be that long?

  • A lot depends upon which highway you took. It sounds like you were on I-275 and that would be the Howard Franklin Bridge, crossing Tampa Bay. If you were on Florida 60, that could have been the Courtney Campbell Causeway across Tampa Bay. Farther West it_s the Memorial Causeway, a much shorter span. This is the very last span taking you to Clearwater Beach. Coming from the South from Sand Key is a very short bridge on SR 699.

  • From Tampa, you would have taken Rt. 60 over the Courtney Campbell Causeway, which isn_t as long as the Howard Franklin or the Gandy Bridges. You would have driven across the city of Clearwater and across the Memorial Causeway, which is much shorter, into the beach area.

How do you get to UC Davis from SF via public transit?|171003

How exactly? I know you take the Amtrak but where? Can anyone give me a detailed answer step by step? How long does it take and how much? How frequent do they run?

  • Get yourself to the Amtrak bus station, either at the Westfield Mall or on the Embarcadero. It takes you over to the station in Emeryville. Catch the train, get off at the downtown Davis station. It_s about a ten-minute walk to campus, or you can catch the Unitrans A bus.

    Amtrak_s number: (800) 872-7245

  • take BART from SF to Richmond. From there you can board the Capitol Corridor Amtrak train. No idea what the time on it would be. I have taken the train from Fairfield to Sacramento and it is approximately 45 minutes.

  • Capitol Corridor.
  • What is the best hotel in Vegas for a honeymoon?|155144

My fiance and I are eloping in Vegas this summer. We stayed at the Bellagio last year, and though we liked the quality, we found it a little _uppity_, any suggestions?

btw - we would prefer to be on the strip

  • Try search at this site:

I usually use this site if i want going to trip.

    Hope this helps.

  • Wynn!

  • I have stayed at more Las Vegas hotels than I would like to publicly admit. By uppity, did you mean the staff were arrogant or they didn_t treat you right? That_s definitely a no-no in Las Vegas, as the hotels are in keen competition with one another, so they are supposed to go out of their way to make you comfortable.

Focusing on the Strip, since you did not have the best experience at the Bellagio, I_m not so sure you would like my #1 recommendation now-- the Wynn Las Vegas. Plush, luxurious, elegant, but still fun. I think that the atmosphere would put you and yours in the best of moods. As someone has already recommended, the Venetian is also an excellent choice. The recreations of Italian scenery are simply stunning.

If you want to tone things down a bit, there is the traditional and reliable Las Vegas standby, Caesars Palace. Still has some great rooms, but not as modern as the ones I_ve mentioned above.

Of course, you want to get a great all-around package of the hotel, great entertainment, fine dining, and at the right price. So shop around a bit.

Another idea for you is to rent a top-tier condo on the Strip for a short stay. I_ve not done this personally, but I have a friend who stayed with his girlfriend at one of these places and he said it was sensational. And, of course, if you seek casino action and entertainment, you need only take the elevator down and you_re within steps of several of them. Here_s the phone numbers for information: 858-456-2722 or 702-525-0088.

    Best of luck.

  • Venetian
    Paris
    Wynn
    MGM Grand

  • Venetian or Mandalay Bay

  • The Hotel at Mandalay Bay is awesome! The pool area at Mandalay Bay is second to none!

  • Hello Ashley!
I don_t know how much you have to spend but I would seriously recommend the Las Vegas Hilton. You only get married once so splurging for the luxury seems to me like a good deal. It is in my opinion the nicest hotel on the strip. You can read more about it here.

Have a great honeymoon! I hope this information helps!

  • Personally Bellagio sucks, Venetian is far more romantic than tht places, and it is way over priced. I took my wif to the Venetian and we stayed on the conciege level suite_s, wow, the best room I have had in Vegas to date. It_s very private, quiet, and they offer free drinks at the bar on that level, I think it_s the 14thor something, free popcorn and you can pick a dvd to take to your room to watch or free, and you have access to the private pool and jacuzzi area.

  • I would want to stay at the Paris for some reason.....or maybe the Venetian. Though that may be a bit uppity also. The Paris just sounds so romantic. I know you can request a room overlooking the strip and then you can watch the Bellagio fountain show from your room.

  • Omg take my word The Mandalay Bay!!! My husband and I stayed there last May 07. Its soooooo great! I want to go back and live there. Eat at the Bayside Buffet in the Mandalay Bay as well. All you can eat Steak,Shrimp,Crablegs,Everything You can eat!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Paris, Monte Carlo or Palazzo

  • How long would it take for a plane to go from New York to California?|147509

What about the same for a car and a train?

  • Plane: 5-6 hours
    Train: 3-4 days
    Car: 4-5 days.

Of course all of these depend on stops. It usually was 5 hours flying time from NC to CA, but we have driven it in as little as 3 1/2 days! (Thanks to a MORON in a TN hotel who gave our wake up call about 4 hours too early!!)

  • flying nonstop is about 5 and a half to 6 hrs. i_m not sure about a car or train...but i know its a lot longer than a plane!
  • How much does the photos cost at Disneyland on splash mountain?|130584

I_m going to Disneyland and I want to buy the pictures take on splash mountain and I need find out the cost and do I need to pay extra for tax?

  • I would save a good $25 especially if you want a nice frame.
You can get the pictures right outside the attraction.
  • What is the best way to travel from San Jose to Malibu?|131253

I_m an international student with a lot of luggage. I need to get to Malibu and I would not have a car. Please also mention the time that would take me to reach there.

  • Here is my suggestion:

    Amtrak

    Route: 11 Coast Starlight
Departs: San Jose, CA (SJC) Approximate Duration*: Approximate Duration*: 8h 10m
    Arrives: Santa Barbara, CA (SBA)Amtrak

    One way ticket $56

    San Jose, CA (SJC)
    Salinas, CA (SNS)
    Paso Robles, CA (PRB)
    San Luis Obispo, CA (SLO)
    Santa Barbara, CA (SBA)
    ------------------------------
    Oxnard, CA (OXN)
    Simi Valley, CA (SIM)
    Van Nuys, CA (VNC)
    Los Angeles, CA (LAX)

NOTE: I would leave the train at beautiful Santa Barbara instead of going all the way into the gigantic Los Angeles, although Malibu is a part of Los Angeles. A drive from Santa Barbara to Malibu would be very scenic, especially since the train is the Coast Starlight, traveling at night. (They no longer seem to have the wonderful Pacific Daylight, which we loved for many years.) Highway 101 is beautiful along the coastline.

    From Santa Barbara to Malibu:
Total Estimated Time: 1 hour 13 minutes
    Total Estimated Distance: 65.58 miles
    No bus service
Rental car perhaps? Worth it for the view down Highway 101.

  • By train you can take Amtrak from San Jose, Ca to Los Angeles, CA. Then I would suggest a cab to Malibu from there.

  • You can also check out Craigslist or the schools bulletin boards for ride shares.
